On the day of surgery, you will be sent home in an elastic sports bra with no underwire.
It needs to have a front closure clasp, as opposed to ones that do up in the back or ones that you slip over your head.
You want a bra that gives you support and is tight enough to allow for compression to minimize any swelling from your surgery.
You also don’t want the band at the bottom to be so tight that it digs into your breasts.
If your incision is in the breast crease, it will be more comfortable for you to keep the gauze in between your skin and the bra.
If the incision is around the nipple, keep the gauze inside the bra covering the areola and steri-strips.
You can take a 1-hour break from wearing the bra.
Use this time to shower and relax in bed.
It is recommended that you don’t engage in any activity while the bra is off.
You can then return to wearing an underwire bra 3 to 4 weeks after surgery.
